Why Music in Early Childhood?

Music Therapy Enrichment Center offers several early childhood music programs at our office and various recreation centers in Northeast Ohio.  Here are a few reasons why:

Music training dramatically enhances children’s abstract reasoning skills necessary for math and science.  A study with 3 and 4 year-olds indicated that children who received piano/keyboard training performed 34% higher on tests measuring spatial-temporal ability than the non-musical group. These findings indicate that music uniquely enhances higher brain functions required for mathematics, chess,  science and engineering. (Psychologist Dr. Frances Rauscher of the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and physicist Dr. Gordon Shaw of the University of California at Irvine in 1994)

Music training enhances the brain!  Studies show that early experiences of childhood determine which brain cells (neurons) will connect with other brain cells, and which ones will die away. Because neural connections are responsible for all types of intelligence, a child’s brain develops to its full potential only with exposure to the necessary music enriching experiences in early childhood. (Music Beats Computers at Enhancing Early Childhood Development, American Music Conference via PR NEWSWIRE: Neurological Research, February 1997)

Holiday Recital

MTEC's dedicated teachers hosted Holiday Recitals for their respective studios at MTEC this past December.  These smaller recitals were a great way to share music, get to know each other, practice performing in a less formal setting and have fun!

Here are pictures and a video from a few of the recitals:

Congratulations to all of the students that participated in the MTEC's Holiday Studio Recitals!

Keep up the good work!

Winter Weather

MTEC is grateful to have clients and students from all over the Cleveland area who visit us at our office.   We appreciate that many travel out of their way to make it to weekly therapy sessions and lessons.

Due to this wonderful diversity, MTEC does not close for inclement weather, unless you are contacted by MTEC staff.
However, if you feel that you will be unable to make it due to weather, we understand! Please let us know by calling your therapist/teacher directly or leaving a message at the office : (440) 250-0091.

*If it appears that our parking lot has not been plowed, we recommend parking at the top parking lot and taking the stairs located towards the center of the building down to MTEC!*

Be safe and stay warm!
